[1] "Mangroves: at the heart of nature-based solutions"
This brief is highlighting the fundamental role of mangroves in climate mitigation, climate adaptation and the support of wildlife and biodiversity.
The state of mangroves coverage and its evolution do not appear critically leaning towards extinction, but there is still a constant loss of mangroves since the 1990’s as mangroves are under several pressures – aquaculture, agriculture, urban development, harvesting, but also climate change and associated effects.
If 42% of remaining mangroves are located in protected areas, the level of effective protection is variable. This brief develops the option of restoration, always coupled with climate mitigation actions and the regulation of human activities.
Forests have an essential role in many regards – they ensure biodiversity abundance, sustain livelihoods and societies’ wellbeing, they are also central actors of climate mitigation and adaptation.
This brief is developing several initiatives, leverages to tackle deforestation and forests’ degradation:
- An efficient and clear governance,
- A work on anticipation of potential drivers and risks,
- An intelligent forest management and potential restorations,
- A strong investment in prevention and potential operations,
- The protection of indigenous people and local communities,
- New ways to produce and consume.

[3] “The preservation of marine ecosystems: a comparative approach of innovative solutions”
Marine ecosystems are essential to the environment's stability and any form of life. Today, they are under several natural and anthropic pressures - global warming, the intensification of human activities or the general lack of knowledge about the topic, among others.
Innovative solutions exist to mitigate the impacts of these pressures. This brief focuses on several initiatives:
- Coral restoration
- Seagrass restoration
- Artificial reefs
- Protected areas, preserves and sanctuaries
- The regulation of human activities
- Waste management
- Partnerships
- Research, education and sensitization
Nevertheless, it appears fundamental to couple these initiatives with the diminution of anthropic pressures.
