City of Gorontalo received first Climate Action Plan Adaptation training (A1) from Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities (CRIC) Project. The training was held between 2-8 June 2022, in Gorontalo, North Sulawesi. The climate adaptation training was supported by two Indonesian research centres namely CCROM and IPB university.

CRIC provides two main topics for Climate Action Plan Training, that requires 14 days in total for each pilot city, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The topics are: Climate Change Mitigation that has 3 sub-topics: greenhouse gases inventory (M1) for 2 days, baseline calculation of GHG inventory M2) for another 2 days and discussion on GHG inventory, baseline and climate mitigation action plan (M3) for 3 days. Gorontalo previously had received all three (M1-M3) climate change mitigation training between August 2021 and April 2022.

The second topic of CRIC training is Climate Change Adaptation that includes two sub-topics: Climate change science basis, vulnerability and risks include calculation (A1) for 4 days and discussion of the vulnerability and risks as well as climate Adaptation plan (A2) for 3 days.

Gorontalo's A1 event was attended by 71 participants (35 men and 36 women) coming from different local government institutions. After the A1 event concluded, Gorontalo will host the second climate change adaptation training that is scheduled between 18-22 August 2022. All of these awareness and capacity building activities is a necessity to help local governments create customized climate action plan based on their risk profiles and local opportunities to contribute to national mitigation and adaptation initiatives.
