Pangkalpinang is flood-vulnerable city. The Kampung Bintang area, sub-district of Rangkui is the worst affected with 49 flood events in 2019.

Reduced upstream water catchment, sedimentation, waste and drainage issues, exacerbate the impact of three rivers flowing through the city's low topography. The Pangkalpinang City Government is adapting to climate change and developing an early warning system to ultimately overcome flooding, together with the assistance of Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities (CRIC Project), and European experts.

CRIC
A unique cooperation between cities, officials, civil society organizations, and academics towards resilient and inclusive cities.
