Plastic, as a material, can be harmful to ecosystems as well as human health. The management and treatment of plastic waste are complex processes - when plastic waste is not efficiently treated on site, it tends to be exported, which greatly impacts local environments and communities of receiving countries. This policy brief explores the impacts of plastic waste exports in South East Asia and the solutions that can be (or should be) implemented to tackle them.
